Charitable Aims

YMS makes regular charitable donations. Our beneficiaries include undergraduate medical students at the Hull and York Medical School, and junior doctors doing research projects in the region.

Each President also nominates three charities, relate to healthcare, for the Society’s support.

Charities of the Year

One local, one national, and one international charity are nominated each year.

Those nominated in 202-21 are listed here.

Student Bursaries

Medical students’ training is enriched by participating in healthcare overseas. Our bursaries enable students to plan electives in far-flung places. The meeting when they present their experiences is a highlight of the Society’s year.

Founders Postgraduate Prize

Trainee doctors compete each year for the Founder’s Prize, awarded for research conducted in the Yorkshire and Humber Region. Five projects are selected for presentation to the Society, adding prestige to the CV of the winner and the runners-up.

How you can support the Society’s work

Legacies and Donations

You can support the Society’s charitable work with a donation or a legacy. This could increase the number of our existing bursaries or endow a new named bursary, or it could increase the range of our charitable work.

If you are thinking of leaving a legacy, or wish to commemorate a loved one in some similar, philanthropic way, we can share our expertise and contacts to help you set it up.
