The York Medical Society Rooms are situated at 23 Stonegate which is one of the larger timber-framed houses to have survived in York. The house is reached by a long, narrow stone-paved entry between two shops on the south side of Stonegate. To the rear of the house there is a beautiful walled garden. The house's medical associations go back to the beginning of the nineteenth century and the York Medical Society was founded in 1831. 23 Stonegate has been owned by the York Medical Society since 1944.

Currently the Society has approximately 300 members. The members mainly consist of Hospital Consultants and General Practitioners in and around the York Area. The President and Council of York Medical Society meet regularly to discuss the business side of Society's affairs and to arrange the Annual Programme and are always ready to welcome members to become Council Members.

The Annual Programme of events commences in October each year with the Public Oration and the Annual Dinner. Meetings are held at the Medical Society Rooms from October through to May and consist of a range of interesting medical and non medical topics. Social events are also planned throughout the year and the Annual General Meeting which is the final meeting of the year is usually held in May/June. Spouses and partners are welcome to attend the meetings and supper including wine is available after the meetings. Newsletters are sent out regularly to keep members informed of what is going on at the York Medical Society.

Membership of the York Medical Society is currently £100 per year for members in practice and £60 per year for retired members. New members are proposed for membership at the ordinary meetings.

Our Library Collection has recently been moved to the Library at the University of York but members of the Society will continue to have access to this Library.

The Medical Society Rooms are available for rental for various functions at very competitive rates.
